Palazzo Grimani Tribuna
A museum rediscovered
- Access Palazzo Grimani Tribuna
After more than four hundred years since the Tribuna of Palazzo Grimani was stripped of the ancient Greek and Roman sculptures that adorned its walls, donated by Giovanni Grimani, Patriarch of Aquileia, to the Republic of Venice, we can now rediscover the vision of that magnificence of marble and shapes that so aroused the admiration of the visitors of that time. Although the Tribuna's reconstruction is only virtual, as observers we can realize the impact that this large number of sculptures could have had, harmonically distributed in niches and on shelves, creating a set of extraordinary beauty and elegance. Museum visitors today are perhaps more sophisticated than in those times, but to be able to enter the Tribuna and enjoy the reconstructed images of the sculptures and look at the four walls once again adorned with their ornaments causes us to appreciate for the nth time how these modern technical means can contribute to advancing our knowledge, supporting the research and study that are always at the basis of this type of reconstruction.
